What you’ll learn

  • Learn the essential building blocks of the game. This phase introduces you to the full table setup, card values, the role of each player, how a Canasta is formed, and the flow of turns, everything you need to start playing confidently.

  • Master the strategic side of Canasta. You'll explore how to handle powerful (and risky) cards like 3s, 7s, Aces, and Wilds, learn how to legally signal to your partner, and practice recognizing the best moves in live play scenarios.

  • Take your game to the next level. This phase dives into expert strategies like Wild Card Canastas, picking toxic packs, transferring block responsibilities, and managing endgame decisions to maximize your team’s points and your chances of winning.

Course FAQ

  • You’ll need two Canasta decks (108 cards), a revolving card tray, and a scorepad with a pencil. The game is played with four players, seated in two teams.

  • Not at all! This course teaches everything from the ground up — including card values, basic strategy, and even how to hold and organize your hand.

  • You’ll begin playing in Chapter 2 ! We start with simple turns and real card handling early so you can build confidence while learning. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready for full competitive play with strategy and scoring.
